bits & pieces

I feel like I am spread so thin that I am not doing a very good job at anything right now.

I've been just going through the motions for a while now and I feel like the cracks are starting to get too big to patch.

Does anyone else ever feel that way?

a new home for Miss Kitty

Our next door neighbors daughter has her own apartment now and has taken Miss Kitty to love as her very own snuggly solo kitty.

I am so happy to have found someone to care for her!

I am looking forward to pictures of her in her new home.

Good times!
Mark your calendars now for a rare Transit of Venus on June 5th, 2012! As seen from Earth,
Venus will not cross the face of the Sun again until 2117.

To help celebrate this unusual opportunity the Bell Museum and the ExploraDome will be at the Eisenhower Community Center's Observatory (1001 Highway 7, Hopkins MN) on June 5th. The event will run from 5-10 p.m. with hands-on activities and presentations including:

• the ExploraDome touring the universe
• telescopes on the front lawn
• the Lawrence Sauter telescope in the Community Center's observatory
• simulcast coverage of the Transit from Hawaii
• classroom presentations

This event is free but donations are gratefully accepted.

The Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics will also be hosting a Venus transit telescope viewing and lecture on the UMN campus. Learn more online.

The Minnesota Astronomical Society will hold a public viewing at the Onan Observatory at
Baylor Regional Park starting at 4 p.m. There is a $5 per car entry fee to the park but the observing is free.

If you can't make it to an event, fear not - you can watch this exciting event yourself, but be sure to be prepared with a safe viewing technique.

That "Fargo" connection gets me again!

A long, long, time ago in a time that we old foggies like to call "the early 1990's", this little girl went to college at Moorhead State (my best friends went to NDSU).

So I used to game in college, D&D and other things. I can safely say that I hung with the same nerdly crew and lived in the same dorm as Jason Coltem. I'm pretty sure that he helped me jump start my car once or twice in the bitter cold ND winters.

Congratulations to Prince and Princess of Northshield, Yngvar and Lucertola.

I guess this means I have to find a way to get myself to an event so I can pledge my service to the crown!

Many cultures have different beliefs about the life that you save. Some say that you have a special bond with that person, others say that you are now responsible for that life.

But what about the life you take?

I am talking specifically about those who have bullied someone to the point where they have taken their own life. That soul exited its mortal coil in tormented suffering, pain, sadness and grief.

I wonder if the girls who bullied Rachel Ehmke are aware of what they have done. Do they understand that it was their actions and cruel words caused a life to end before its time. Will they feel this press on them as they move forward with their lives and feel the burden of it?

Do we turn to the adults in their lives and wonder why no one did anything to intervene? No older student stood up and said stop. No teacher was able to catch them in the act of abuse. No parent told them to be kind because nice matters.

I look to this article and I think about all of the firsts that this young woman will never have. She will never learn to drive or graduate high school, she will never have her first kiss or her heart broken, or the joy of finding love after healing.

I grieve for those who have lost someone they love to suicide; it is especially difficult when it is a young person.

Depression wears many faces, hides in different smiles and sometimes the call for help is more of a whisper.

The heart of the issue is that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

help with finding a new home for a kitty

Hi! I need some help re-homing one of our cats. Miss Kitty is an all black female, of un-known age, but she has been 'fixed', though has all of her claws. She is a very friendly kitty with the humans, but is afraid of the other cats. I think they're trying to play and she just hisses at them and hides in the basement.

Have a basement kitty isn't terrible, but I would rather that she has a home where she is free to roam and have pettins on a regular basis. So probably a home with either an much older cat or a kitten or where she is the solo kitty would be best for her.

I am asking to see if you or anyone you know can give her a new home. I don't want to give her away to just anyone, I want to make sure that she will be cared for.

Thanks for your help!
